Orange harbinger of the remaining month of summer, hiding its face downward in mock humility. The last of the lilies, around here, to bloom.

My Grandfather had a nice patch of them alongside his farmhouse. He’d bring in a bloom and put it in the center of the kitchen table. We’d usually get the brown/yellow powder, that never seems to come out of light-colored clothes, on us no matter how careful we were.
