Sleigh Ride – Cold Sunny Day, Black Horses

Just about ready to start, horses hitched up, reins in hand. He’s in his 70s and does things with his horses just about daily…rides or has them pulling. On trail rides his ‘yeah, get up there!’ pirate-like growling command can make my horse tense up even from 20 paces.

This matched pair of black beauties, did a lot of pulling to take us on a post Valentine’s sleigh ride through the fields, forest and over the snow.

During the winter months in Wisconsin (when the Packers aren’t playing) sometimes the horse club members get together for a sleigh ride at one of the members who drives a team followed by a potluck or as it was this time a vegetable chicken soup dump. Or sometimes its just a tractor-pulling haywagon excursion down gravel roads. This time it was the real deal, across the fields and into the woods we went. Frequent head ducking was necessary to avoid losing hats to overhanging branches, it was fun and cold.

Green sleigh, blue sky.Cold day, but windless and sunny. Good company for an old time tradition.

Group disembarks for the building of a campfire and to let the horses rest and steam a bit before they do more pulling.
