The new year dawned cold and clear, real cold (-10F) and totally cloudless. The sky faded periwinkle, the horizon line paler, lighter and with a gray slightly pink tinge. No clouds, no color show, just a spotlight of sunny glare at just before 8 a.m. Wisconsin time. I started to dash into the house for my camera because it was the first sunrise of the new year (I had been outside feeding the horses and kinda playing with the dogs – this dry snow was too cold for play). But once I got inside the warmth felt so…warm, I decided I didn’t want to go back outside until it was, well, warmer. So I took photos through the windows (hmm they could use some cleaning). I tried an under the deck, through the steps photo…nah, looked too ‘under the steps.’
I liked the sun highlighted mist rising in the trimmed pines – the globe itself was glaring, defiantly just to the right of the frame.
In the other direction, looking west, I like the gap in the windbreak spruce and the three-quarters moon in the clear sky.
So I’ve got my slice of time recorded; the beginning of a new year’s day. My pictorial record of the first sunrise of 2013, even if it wasn’t a ‘spectacular’ sunrise- maybe it was a shine the light without distractions beginning to this year.
Now these articles below have great sunrise photos!
